About CURUFC
CURUFC is a wholly amateur but professionally run student rugby club representing the University of Cambridge. The Club is made up of both women’s teams (1st, 2nd the Tigers, 3rd the Jaguars) and men’s teams (1st, 2nd the LX Club, 3rd the Centurions). Both the men’s and women’s 1st teams have strong midweek fixture lists incorporating top professional clubs and universities. The junior sides play midweek in the BUCS leagues.
Teams are selected on merit and all teams receive coaching, strength and conditioning guidance and medical support from our well-qualified staff.
The club has a great tradition of touring, with different squads touring South Africa, Scotland and the USA in recent years.
On Saturday afternoons there are 15 College teams who compete in a structured league system. There are three leagues with each team playing once with regular promotion and relegation. During the season there is a knockout Cuppers tournament with the finals being held at Grange Road in April/May. In addition the season starts in October with a Colleges touch tournament.
The ultimate aim of every rugby player at Cambridge should be to play in a 'Varsity' match. In the 2021-22 season there were five Varsity matches played at various levels, ensuring that over 100 players gained the honour of playing against ‘the other place.' The Varsity series traditionally culminates with the first teams playing at Twickenham, and in the 21/22 season this match took place for the first time on a Saturday in spring, April 2nd.
